2006 Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
92 Points
Intense and full-blown, rich and concentrated, with a rustic, earthy edge to the dried currant, sage and underbrush notes. The depth and dimension of the flavors are cloaked in chewy tannins, requiring time to unfold. Best from 2010 through 2016.

2005 Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
94 Points #69 on Top 100 Wines of the Year
The formula for success here is putting quality Rutherford Cabernet in the hands of winemaker Tom Rinaldi, who before joining Hewitt in 2000, was (founding) winemaker at Duckhorn for 22 vintages. The 60-acre Hewitt estate vineyard sits on the Rutherford Bench, a three-mile stretch of land at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains on the west side of Napa Valley. Its gravelly clay-loam soils have good drainage, allowing the vines to establish deep roots and develop complex flavors. The resulting wine is intense and concentrated

2005 Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
92 Points
Strikes a good balance between youthfully firm tannins, fairly high alcohol and ripe black cherry, cocoa and cedar flavors. Feels plush and generous in the mouth, and should develop additional bottle complexity through 2011

2005 Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
Recommended
Ideal weather conditions aloud for remarkable hang time of this 2005 Cabernet crop. The result is a big wine with a bold reddish-purple hue, a nose full of dark fruit and oak, offering sumptuous flavors of black-cherry as well as ripe plum. A tinge of licorice and sage round out the wine's intense palate. A touch of Rutherford dust lingers on the finish, along with hints of coffee. With a full body and firm tannins, this wine can hold up to rich red meats like a bold steak or roast lamb.

2005 Hewitt Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford
95 Points
In its brief history, Hewitt has already made a name for itself as a producer of big, massively extracted Cabernets and, while this most recent version adheres to the norms of muscle and mass, it does so with a little more polish than shown in the past. Very deep, very ripe and very full-bodied, it is bursting with wonderfully concentrated, curranty fruit and is further lifted by loads of sweet oak. Its sense of polish makes it remarkably approachable even now, but the wise choice is cellaring, and we would counsel five or six years of patience
